Hero unveiled the Mavrick 440, cousin to Harley’s X440. The launch of this motorcycle marks a lot firsts for Hero as a brand. Let’s dive in!
A 440cc oil-cooled, single cylinder motor, co-developed with Harley-Davidson is the largest Hero to roll out; a first. The engine makes it the most powerful Hero, putting out a respectable 26.9hp at 6000rpm and 36Nm at 4000 rpm, yet again a first for Hero. The Mavrick receives a different state of tune which explains a lower torque by 2Nm compared to the Harley.
The Mavrick is heavily based on the Harley-Davidson X440 sharing the engine and the frame. However, the overall stance of the Mavrick is a lot more muscular and closer to a neo-retro design with flared tank recesses and chunky extensions. Hero has also re-designed the side panels and exhaust to differentiate it from its Western relative. A smaller front wheel (17-inch), 43mm telescopic forks and a wider rear tyre set it apart from the Harley X440.
Complete LED lighting, fully digital-negative LCD dash, turn-by-turn navigation, distance-to-empty gauge, low-fuel indicator, dual-channel ABS and a slip-and-assist-clutch are part of the Mavrick’s feature arsenal. Hero offers the bike in three variants namely Base, Mid and Top. The mid-variant, comes with the added feature of alloy wheels. While the top-of-the-line offers a few more embellishments and e-sim based connectivity.
While bookings are currently open for the Mavrick 440 at ₹5,000, deliveries will commence from April 2024. Bookings before 15th of March promise a custom accessory kit along with merchandise worth ₹10,000.
Hero’s Mavrick 440 will lock horns with its sibling, the Harley-Davidson X440, the Honda Hness CB 350 and the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which currently dominate this space. Hero has launched the Mavrick at ₹1.99 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi), which undercuts the Harley by over forty thousand rupees and seems to offer exceptionally great value at that price. The Mavrick 440 seems to have the right formula in place to become the Top Gun.
