Hero Xtreme 125R: The scaled-down 160

Hero has been on a roll and has launched the Xtreme 125R. The Xtreme aims to capitalise on a unique space brought to life by the TVS Raider 125.

The Xtreme 125R asserts its muscular presence straight away. Headlight design seems eerily similar to the Kawasaki Z1000. But massive tank shrouds and a chiselled tank draw attention away from that. While it isn’t a cohesive choice of design elements, the neatly designed exhaust and split-seats give it a sporty appearance and stance.

The 125cc air-cooled, single-cylinder puts out 11.5hp at 8250rpm and 10.5Nm at 6000rpm which is quite healthy by segment standards. Keeping in line with Hero’s frugal underpinnings, it also promises 66kmpl combined with a fuel tank capacity of 10 litres. The engine is nestled in an all-new diamond frame.

It comes with a segment-best, 276mm front disc and retuned 37mm front forks. The 7-step, preload-adjustable rear monoshock is from Showa. All of this would come together to spell a fun little machine that promises sprightly handling.

Hero has equipped the bike with all LED Lighting, single-channel ABS, a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity such as SMS and call alerts.

The bike is offered in 3 colours, namely Cobalt Blue, Firestorm Red and Stallion Black. Hero has launched the Xtreme 125R at an ex-showroom price of ₹95,000 for the base variant(non-ABS) and ₹99,500 for the ABS variant. Prices are on par with the TVS Raider and should make for a very interesting comparison test! The Xtreme 125R will be available from the 20th of February for test rides at Hero dealerships across the country.
